The Nandadeep School of Optometry unit of Nandadeep Eye Hospital, now affiliated with the prestigious Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), offers B.Sc. Optometry, a four-year degree course to create the next generation of optometrists in India. We aim to instill high professional ethics, community orientation, and camaraderie in our students, apart from teaching them modern-day optometry practice and research. What is Optometry?
Optometry is the primary eye care profession of the eye and visual systems, which deals with the detection and diagnosis of vision-related disorders as well as the management of visual disorders and visual rehabilitation.
Who is an Optometrist?
- An Optometrist is a healthcare professional who detects and diagnoses eye and vision-related disorders.
- An Optometrist plays a crucial part in managing visual disorders with the aids of spectacles, contact lenses, vision therapy, and low-vision devices.
- An Optometrist also rehabilitates and counsels patients for low vision, specialty contact lenses, LASIK, and other refractive surgeries.
Skills you will acquire
- Prescribing glasses after refractive error corrections

Dr. Sourabh D. Patwardhan
Dean of Nandadeep School of Optometry, Dr. Sourabh Patwardhan, is interested in refractive surgeries, retinal surgeries, glaucoma, and eye diseases in children. He has also specialized in advanced phaco technology. He has expertise in managing complicated cases of cataracts.
Also, Nandadeep Eye Hospital has become an apex institute for diabetic retinopathy and retinal disease management.
In 2010, Dr. Sourabh Dilip Patwardhan joined Nandadeep Eye Hospital. He has an illustrious academic career. Eventually, within a few years, he became a renowned mentor with various peer-reviewed national and international publications and was awarded at several national and international conferences as a speaker.
