आरओपी याचा फुल फॉर्म आहे रेटिनोपथी ऑफ प्रीम मॅचुरिटी म्हणजेच जी नवजात बाळ जी वयाच्या नवव्या महिन्यापेक्षा लवकर जन्माला आले अशा बाळांमध्ये एक पडद्याचा एक विशेष आजार आम्हाला दिसून येतो थोडक्यात काय असतं की आपल्या पडद्याची वाढ नऊ महिन्यापर्यंत पूर्ण होत असते म्हणजे डोळ्याच्या नसेपासून बाहेरच्या पडद्याच्या भागापर्यंत रक्तवाहिन्याया पोहोचत असतात परंतु ज्यावेळी बाळाचा जन्म नऊ महिन्याच्या आत होतो फॉर एक्झाम्पल आठव्या महिन्यात बाळाचा जन्म झाला अशावेळी काय होतं की ही वाढ रक्तवाहिन्यांची वाढ एका पर्टिकुलर स्टेज पर्यंत पोहोचलेली असते आणि त्यानंतर त्या बाळाचा जन्म होतो बाळ जन्माला आल्यानंतर पहिल्या काही कालावधीमध्ये तुम्हाला माहिती आहे की प्रीमॅचुअर बेबीजना आपल्याला आयसीयू मध्ये ठेवाव लागत त्यांच्यावर लक्ष ठेवाव लागतं बऱ्याचदा त्यांना ऑक्सिजन देण्याची गरज असते आणखी काही औषध सुद्धा बाळाला द्यावी लागू शकतात अँटीबायोटिक द्यावी लागू शकतात अशा कारणामुळे बाळाचे पुढचे काही दिवस हे अर्थातच त्याच्यानुसार स्ट्रेसफुल असतात त अशा कालावधीत काय होतं की ही जी रक्तवाहिनींची वाढ आहे ती काही वेळा थांबू शकते किंवा खुंटू शकते यालाच रेटिनोपथी प्रीमॅचुरिटी म्हणतात म आता झालेलं काय असतं की डोळ्यामध्ये दिसण्याचा जो मधला भाग आहे तो कदाचित बनलेला असतो परंतु बाहेरचा पडद्याचा भाग आता बनलेला नसतो आणि अशावेळी आम्हाला लक्ष ठेवाव लागतं की हा पुढचा भाग बनतोय की नाही हा पुढचा भाग जर बनत नसेल तर अशा डोळ्यांमध्ये जाळ्या तयार होऊ शकतात आणि हा पडदा पूर्ण सरकू शकतो आणि त्यामुळे या बाळाला कायमचा अंधत्व होऊ शकत आणि एकदा हा पडदा पूर्ण सरकला तर त्याच्यासाठी ऑपरेशन्स करण्याचा सुद्धा फारसा काही फायदा होत नाही त्यामुळे ते या स्टेजमध्ये प्रिव्ेंट करणं हे फार महत्त्वाच [संगीत]
