Islampur: Correspondent – A free eye check-up camp was jointly organized at Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College, run by Mahatma Phule Education Society, in collaboration with the Health Centre, Gymkhana Department, NSS Department and Nandadeep Eye Hospital. The camp received an overwhelming response from students, parents, teachers, non-teaching staff and citizens. A total of 400 people benefited from the camp and underwent eye examinations.

The camp was inaugurated by the college Principal, Dr. Nitin Shinde. During the camp, eye care specialists from Nandadeep Eye Hospital conducted detailed eye examinations of the participants. Along with checking eye health, the experts also provided guidance on various eye conditions and the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment.

The Nandadeep Eye Hospital team also provided information about AI technology-based Robotic Cataract Surgery using advanced medical equipment, along with various refractive eye surgeries. Participants were informed about how modern technology can help in the accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment of several eye-related conditions.

During the camp, participants were screened for Refractive errors, Cataract, Pterygium, dry Eye and Watering of the Eyes, along with other common eye problems. Many people tend to ignore minor eye-related symptoms. However, timely eye examination can help detect certain conditions at an early stage and prevent them from progressing. The participants were therefore guided about the importance of regular eye check-ups.

Special counselling was also provided regarding LASIK Surgery for reducing dependence on Spectacles. The experts explained that the suitability of LASIK depends on factors such as the Spectacle prescription, Corneal condition and detailed Eye examination. Patients can be guided towards the most suitable treatment option only after a proper assessment.

During the programme, Seraj Patil (Mai), General Secretary of Mahatma Phule Education Society, Managing Council Member Deepak Patil and Prof. Smita Patil visited the camp and reviewed the arrangements. Vice Principal Dr. Prakash Gaikwad, Dr. Sandeep Patil, Junior College Vice Principal Prof. Santosh Patil, Prof. Milind Khandelote and student representative Sayali Jadhav, along with members of the college staff, were also present.

The Successful organization of the camp was supported by Dr. Sandeep Patil, Health Centre Coordinator; Dr. Amitraj Mane, Gymkhana Head; Lieutenant Dr. Baliram Sawant, NSS; Prof. Ranjit Chavan, Vivek Pol, Vaibhavi Khot, Ajit Patil and Vijay Kamble, who took special efforts for the programme.

The joint initiative by Nandadeep Eye Hospital and the college provided students, teachers, staff, parents and citizens with an opportunity to undergo a basic eye screening. With the increasing use of mobile phones, computers and digital screens, especially among young people, regular eye examinations have become increasingly important.
