Many patients visit us every day with a specific complaint: seeing webs, spots, lines, or different types of threads in front of their eyes. Often, when they move their eyes, these spots or webs move along with them. They become especially noticeable when looking at a white background, the sky, or the white screen of a mobile or computer.
In medical terms, this condition is called ‘Floaters’ or ‘Vitreous Degeneration’.
But why exactly do these floaters form? Is it a serious issue? What is the treatment for this? Dr. Saurabh Patwardhan (Nandadeep Eye Hospital) explains the answers to all these questions in very simple words in this video.
What you will learn in this video:
• The Cause of Floaters: There is a gel called ‘Vitreous’ between the lens and the retina inside our eyes. As age increases, the liquefaction of this gel—meaning its conversion into water—begins. During this process, some parts of the gel break away and start floating in front of the eyes, which we call floaters.
• The Most Important Thing: Floaters do not cause any harm or trouble to your vision.
• The Doctor’s Personal Experience: Dr. Saurabh Patwardhan himself has been experiencing floaters in both eyes for the last 15 years, and it is completely normal. Therefore, there is absolutely no need to panic!
